my random musings, now in words.
It saddens me when i read about the above couple. They are respectively, (from left to right) Mr Mark McDougall and Miss Kerry Robertson. Both of them are perfectly happy with each other’s presence, and decided to get married, once they know that they will be having a baby soon. Kerry, 17 and Mark, 25 had set up beautiful plans for their weddings, when out of the blue;
THEIR WEDDING WAS HALTED BY SOME INCONSIDERATE SOCIAL WORKERS.
Mark and Kerry was 48 hours away from their big day, and suddenly, as they are busy doing the last touches for the wedding, social workers from Fife (a social concil in the UK) came to their flat and said to them that the wedding must be called off solely because;
KERRY DID NOT UNDERSTAND THE IMPLICATIONS OF GETTING MARRIED.
So to speak, Kerry suffers from learning difficulties academically, where she cannot write or read very well, but i suppose she is nowhere as stupid as how the social workers see it. Because of this reasoning, the social workers concluded that Kerry does not posses the capacity to make such decision. What saddens me even more is the fact that under the Scotts Law, a registrar may refuse to marry a couple if he believes one or both the parties lack the mental capacity to understand what the institution of marriage is about.
I KNOW RIGHT??
By the time i learned about their case, Kerry is five months pregnant, and the couple are concern that the baby will be born with unmarried parents, which is a big deal to both of them. Also, now that the Fife council had push their power to the extreme by calling of the couple’s wedding off, Kerry and Mark are concerned that once their little Ben is born, the Fife council will take him away from his parents just because they thought Miss Kerry is unable to care for him.
I am still so upset about everything. I know what marriage is. It is when two folks want to spend the rest of their lives together. I love Mark and I want to get married to him.’
‘We are both going to fight this all the way. We feel the fact we want to get married should be encouraged, not forbidden.’
i hope the couple will fight for this. Here’s my solution, just move to somewhere where there are intelligent people, get married, and be happy with Little Ben. Or if worse comes to worst, just know that a piece of paper does not mean everything. it just proves legally that you are married, but i know the both of you believe that you are meant for each other. God bless the both of you.
